PLASTISOL:
Mixture obtained by dispersing a PVC powder in a plasticizer;
used for coating fabrics and paper.
COATING:
Action of coating a textile base. It is also possible
to produce coatings without a base.
PVC: Polyvinyl
chloride, highly used plastic material
POLYURETHANE:
plastic material used in paint and varnish industries
and for making foam and elastomers.
ELASTOMER:
Natural or synthetic polymer with elastic properties
similar to those of rubber.
COATER:
something which coats
FINISH:
the coated gelled article is generally finished with
one or more procedures: graining, embossing, polishing,
satinage, varnishing.
PRINTING:
Operation where shapes and cylinder designs are transferred
onto the fabric.
GRAINING:
graining aims to provide the coated fabrics with a “grain”,
i.e. a relief print giving it a specific appearance.
SMOOTHING, SATINAGE:
smoothing and satinage are both surface treatments which
give the fabric surface a better appearance, either
shiny or mat.
VARNISHING:
when a non-sticky coating is required, dry and pleasant
to the touch, a varnish can be applied to the coated
fabric which forms a barrier and stops migration of
the plasticizers.
